I'm discovering new Vilnius.

August 23 1989 residents of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia have built a human chain. More than a million people joined hands to create a long human chain that stretched for 600 km and connected Tallinn, Riga and Vilnius. In 2010  the sculpture "The path of freedom" was opened  in Vilnius  on  the anniversary of the action the Baltic Way , dedicated to the 20 anniversary of the restoration of the Lithuanian state. The sculpture Itself represents a wall, made from the glazed bricks in the colors of the national flag of Lithuania, which cut the silhouettes of people holding hands or just standing there.  The sculpture has not yet been completed. The sculpture, when it is finished, will reach 60 meters in length and 3.4 meters in height. At its production will require about 20,000 bricks, which the residents of Lithuania could buy over the Internet or in the offices of the Lithuanian-mail. The people have bought more than 19,000 bricks in a few months .  The inhabitants of 31 countries on five continents  bought bricks.

Built on a high hill in Vilnius, the first AKROPOLIS was the first supermarket of such size both in Lithuania and the Baltic states, and became a real phenomenon.

Август, закат лета. В Литве это самый ровный и спокойный летний месяц и это по-настоящему жаркий летний месяц. В отдельные дни стояла жара до 32-35 градусов. Великолепная погода, множество озер, чистый сосновый лес. Ночью идет дождь, утром все проясняется и становится светло и солнечно. Правда, 8 и 23 августа, по большей части территории Литвы пронесся мощный ураган, сопровождавшийся грозой и ливнем и от порывов ветра были повалены деревья. 8 августа ураган стал самой мощной природной катастрофой за всю историю Литвы.

August - end of summer. In Lithuania, August is the most steady and calm of the summer months and it is a really hot summer month. On some days the heat was up to 32-35 degrees. Wonderful weather, lots of lakes with warm water, clean pine forests. Night rain. In the morning everything becomes clear, bright and sunny. But, on 8 and 23 August a powerful hurricane swept through most of the territory of Lithuania, accompanied by thunderstorms and heavy rain and the gusts of wind that knocked down trees. August 8 was the most powerful hurricane natural disaster in the history of Lithuania.
